The Michigan Breast and Cervical Cancer Control Navigation Program (BC3NP)  started in 1991 with funding from CDC to provide access to cancer screening and diagnostic services to low-income uninsured or underinsured women. It aims to decrease cancer incidence, morbidity, and mortality by increasing access to breast and cervical cancer screening, diagnostic and treatment services to women in MI’s underserved populations. BC3NP offers screening and diagnostic services to women low-income, uninsured, or underinsured between the ages of 21 and 64. For women diagnosed with breast or cervical cancer, BC3NP also has a Medicaid program to cover treatment costs. This treatment program is not exclusive to BC3NP participants and can be extended to any MI woman meeting BC3NP’s age, income, and insurance requirements even if they are diagnosed outside of the program.

At the end of the presentation the participant will be able to:

  1. State known risk factors that can cause breast and cervical cancer.
  2. Identify breast and cervical cancer screening services provided by the BC3NP.
  3. State how to identify women eligible for BC3NP and refer them for to the program to receive screening services.

WISEWOMAN is a federal program funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and is administered by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. The WISEWOMAN program helps women understand and reduce their risk for heart disease and stroke by offering clinical risk factor screenings and access to services that promote healthy behaviors. WISEWOMAN offers services to women who are low-income, uninsured, or underinsured, and between the ages of 40 and 64.

At the end of the presentation the participant will be able to:

  1. Understand screening services provided by the WISEWOMAN program.
  2. Identify healthy lifestyle interventions programs provided by the WISEWOMAN program.
  3. State how to identify eligible persons and refer them to the WISEWOMAN program.
